Three Easy Summer Potluck Ideas

We have had a number of potlucks this summer and several more upcoming. My struggle with what to make prompted me to give it some more thought and share my summer potluck favorites. Whether it’s for a wedding shower, picnic, reunion or holiday no one wants to spend the entire day making ALL the food. When everyone pitches in, everyone can enjoy the party!

  1. Meat Candy! Always one of my go-to party recipes. It’s part appetizer, part dessert. Everyone will ask for the recipe and they won’t believe that it’s only three ingredients. Simply make a small meatball out of breakfast sausage or ground pork, split two pitted dates and wrap around the sausage, wrap that in bacon. Bake at 375 for about 20 minutes depending on how large your wraps are.
  2. Burger Sliders: Skip the individual patties and go for a baked batch instead. Layer cooked ground beef seasoned with a little salt and pepper and your favorite Wisconsin cheese onto dinner rolls, then simply place the tray in the oven until the cheese is melted and buns are golden brown. Finish with pickles and your favorite sauce for sliders that are as easy as they are crowd-pleasing.
  3. Classic Deviled Eggs: They are so simple and inexpensive. No summer potluck is complete without deviled eggs (from pasture raised chickens). I prefer the classic, but there are many twists you can add to give them character.  You could even try deviled duck eggs! Here is a link to a simple tasty recipe from spendwithpennies.com

How we raise pastured turkeys for Thanksgiving

Midsummer, our farm welcomes hundreds of day old turkey chicks. From there, we raise them in the brooder until they are old enough to graze the rest of their lives on pasture. If you've never gotten the chance to come out to the farm to see them on pasture yourself, watch our 5 minute video here. It really is an impressive sight to see!
