Bone Broth Smoothie Pop
Stay refreshed and well this summer with this DIY smoothie pop recipe! Completely customizable to your fridge and your favorites, but with a secret ingredient that's both delicious and good for you: bone broth.
  • Prep Time:
  • Servings: 12

Ingredients

  • Turkey Bone Broth
  • (as desired) Fruits and Veggies
  • (as desired) Vegetables
  • (as desired) Dairy/Non-Dairy
  • (as desired) Add Ins

Directions

We recommend our ready made turkey bone broth because it's light in flavor, dense in nutrients, and convenient to use.

Worried about the taste? All the fresh fruit and other ingredients included in the smoothie should mask any detection of bone broth that you or your kids might oppose to otherwise. Your body will thank you!

A 1/2 quart of our bone broth (thawed, but cold - do not use hot broth) plus a slew of other fruits, yogurts, and yummy ingredients yielded a dozen pops in pre-made molds. If you plan to use an ice cube tray and tooth picks, 1/2 - 1 cup of bone broth would be plenty.

What to Mix In

Classic Fruits:

Bananas, strawberries, blueberries, mango, pineapple, etc..

Vegetables:

Beets, Spinach, Kale, Seaweed flakes

Creamy Thickeners (non-dairy or dairy):

Milk (your choice - we prefer whole dairy), yogurt

Wholesome Liquids

Bone broth (recommend turkey or chicken for a neutral flavor), coconut water, milk (see above), water, juice

Natural Sweeteners:

Honey, maple syrup, dates, coconut water or sugar

Protein:

Peanut butter, nut butter, protein powder

Potential Add Ins for Extra Nutrition:

Chia seeds, ground flaxseed, cacao nibs, cinnamon, turmeric, hemp seed

Putting it All Together

Create your smoothie as you desire. If you plan to add a lot of different fruits/ingredients, remember that a little bit of everything will go a long way.

You can figure about 1/4 cup liquid for every 1 cup of chopped fruit, but you may need to tweak as you go as some fruits are "wetter" than others.

Taste test your smoothie and add enough liquid to your desired thickness. Start with your bone broth as your main liquid, then add some milk, juice, or water, as desired.

Once the smoothie is made to your liking, pour into cleaned pop ice molds or a clean ice cube tray.

If using an ice cube tray, cover with plastic wrap or aluminum foil and set a tooth pick or small popsicle stick in each cube for easy eating later.

Set molds/tray into the freezer and enjoy your frozen treats over the next few days. If you have any leftover smoothie that didn't fit in the molds/tray, pour into a glass and enjoy as a smoothie, itself.
