A lesson from the sunflowers

August is here and you can sense the bounty in the air.

The sunflowers in our pollinator patch across the road are beginning to bloom. They already present a stunning tease for the magnificent show that is sure to come when they are all in full bloom over the next few weeks.

Every day, more join to face and praise the sun.

There's a sense of unease, uncertainty in the air as the start of a new style of school nears, fall sports should be starting, and all of the things we once called "normal" would have been set to start again.

But that isn't necessarily the case right now. Instead, the world is in a different state. A state that challenges us to live in the present, in the now.As farmers, we walk the line between future and now every day. It's a joy and a challenge, but it's also what has taught us to slow down and to stop to smell the flowers.

The incredible joy that a single blooming sunflower can bring, is immense. A whole garden of them? Indescribable. And to see the butterflies and bees bouncing between them? Breathless.

In such challenging times, people have the power to unite, to help and to heal. We want to be here for you, too. We invite you to come out, pick up your order, and see the sunflowers on your drive.

Take a lesson from them - stand together, face what's good, and be brilliant.

If you'd like to take a longer while, a few hours to just be present in a quiet, beautiful place, consider purchasing a self-guided tour. You are free to wander the farm, take pictures, and just be. Advanced ticket purchase required. Find them here.

Please, let me know if you have any questions at riemerfamilyfarm1927@gmail.com. Enjoy the beauty of today. Thank you!

Preventing Soil Erosion with Grass-fed Beef

Better food starts with better soil. As President Franklin D. Roosevelt famously said, "The nation that destroys its soil, destroys itself." He couldn't be more right. That's why we choose to manage our pastures in a way that protects, enhances, and builds soil. Because if we lose the soil, we lose our ability to grow food.
