Wildlife Restoration and Grazing

As regenerative farmers we talk a lot about soil health, but what I actually get most excited about is the wildlife! When we mimic nature by moving livestock across the land much like the bison across the prairie, we support a vibrant ecosystem.
Our farm logo is meant to reflect the relationship between our farming/ranching practices and the wildlife. The butterfly is also a plant and the sun makes the whole system possible! When we do right by the land and the domesticated and wild animals the final product is just better in many quantifiable ways. I will share more about how our practices result in superior nutritional content in meat, cleaner water, healthy soil and more but today I want to highlight the wildlife we have in our vibrant pastures.
Frogs! Chorus frogs, spring peepers, tree frogs, leopard frogs and more. At dusk on a spring evening is downright raucous by the creek! Frogs are an indicator species that tell us that the ecosystem, especially near the creek, is healthy and vibrant. Ruminants grazing is a key part of a healthy system.

Below is a photo of a Bobolink nest. We make every effort to preserve the areas that the prairie birds have nests and fledge their young. If you are a birder, you know how interesting and hard to find the Bobolink is. We felt very validated in our farming practices when prairie birds like the bobolinks returned several years ago.

We have also been a roosting ground for the monarch butterflies on their migration to Mexico in the past. We currently have a family of skunks taking up residence in our north pasture! I did not, however, get close enough for a photo!
Choosing great tasting regeneratively raised meats for your family makes a bigger difference than you might think for the wildlife. Thank you for continuing to support us as we continue to move the needle toward a more sustainable future!
